Why It’s Best to Hire a Professional Pressure Washing Service

Posted on: December 26th, 2013 by First Coast Home Pros No Comments

pressure washing Jacksonville FLEvery homeowner knows that no matter how much you clean the outside of your home, over time, dirt will accumulate that you just can’t remove on your own. Oil from vehicles and rust from machines or downspouts can stain your driveway. Dirt, mold and mildew can darken your siding and your roof. Decks can age from damage from the sun and rain. These things can make your home look old, tired and undermine your curb appeal. Now there’s no doubt that you will have to deal with this, but many homeowners face the question of how?

A pressure washer is one of the best tools for jobs like this. If you’ve gone to one of those car washes where you hold the hose to rinse off your car, you’ve used a pressure washer before. Pressure washers used at home are usually gas-powered devices that pressurize water and send it through a hose to a wand with a trigger where the user can direct the spray. Sometimes the pressure washer has attachments that are used for adding detergents and many times there are a variety of nozzle tips and attachments to use on the end of the wand. The nozzle tips restrict the water flow making the pressurized water more or less powerful. Some end attachments can be used to pressure wash your driveway in Jacksonville. Used properly, they can clean driveways, siding and decks.

Cleaning Tips: Cleaning House with Common Household Items

Posted on: July 10th, 2013 by First Coast Home Pros No Comments

It is amazing how many items are in our homes that can be used for much more than we utilize them for. Using these common household items to clean can save money, a trip to the store, and helps to keep harmful chemicals out of your home.

1)  Baking Soda

·         Baking Soda can be used to easily remove grease and grime from kitchen surfaces.

·         Works great for carpet deodorizing, just sprinkle onto carpet before going to bed and vacuum in the morning.

·         To clean a barbecue grill, sprinkle dry baking soda on a damp brush, scrub, and then rinse.

2) Dryer Sheets

·         Clean shower doors with a used dryer sheet to dissolve soap scum.

·         Get baked-on foods off pots and pans by placing a dryer sheet in a pot, fill it with water and let sit overnight, and then sponge off the next morning.

·         Using dryer sheets to dust ceiling fans and light fixtures not only attracts the dust to the cloth faster than a rag but over time creates a anti-static barrier that helps repel dust.

3) Vinegar

·         To get rid of lime buildup, make a paste of 1 teaspoon vinegar and 2 tablespoons salt. Apply the paste to sink fixtures and rub off with a cloth.

·         Remove dark stains on an aluminum pot by boiling a mixture of 1 cup white distilled vinegar and 1 cup hot water.

·         Shine colored porcelain sinks by scouring them with undiluted white distilled vinegar.

·         Rinse away soapy film on counter tops with a solution of white distilled vinegar and water.

4) Shaving Cream

·         Clean a bathroom mirror with white, not gel, shaving cream, then wipe with a soft cloth. This also helps keep the mirror fog-free after showers.

·         Shaving Cream is also a great De-greaser for your hands. Put it next your work bench and all you need is a dry cloth, no water, to clean grease and grime from your hands.

·         Shaving Cream also works great to polish metal hardware and appliances.

3 Reasons You Should Have your Roof Cleaned

Posted on: May 29th, 2013 by First Coast Home Pros No Comments

The roof is an important part of any building, built to last for decades. However, proper maintenance is a must.

#1: A roof that has been well maintained lasts longer, which in turn can only help the market value of your home or building. Problems with your roof may occur as the house or building gets older. Weather conditions, fungus, moss, and algae can cause discoloration as well as damage to shingles. When regular cleaning or maintenance is neglected what could have been a simple cleaning project can become an expensive chore. Having to replace shingles or tiles, or worse, the entire roof can be extremely costly.

#2:A clean roof can improve the energy efficiency of your home. If algae, moss, or debris is covering your roof it is no longer able to effectively reflect sunlight. Shingles covered in algae absorb more heat than shingles that can reflect the light.  This additional heat absorbtion in turn heats your attic, thus increasing your cooling costs.

#3:A clean roof usually looks like a brand new roof. A clean roof not only makes your home more appealing to the eye it can increase the value of your home if you are trying to sell. Having a well manicured lawn and freshly pressure washed driveway is great, but what does it say about your home’s condition if the roof looks like it needs to be replaced because it’s so dirty?

Having your roof cleaned is a must for any homeowner, and choosing knowledgeable professionals to do the job is just as important.  For an experienced, skilled roof cleaning service in Jacksonville, Florida, call First Coast Home Pros today to set up a free estimate.

Time to Repair Your Screened Enclosure?

Posted on: May 23rd, 2013 by First Coast Home Pros No Comments

The average life of a screen on a screened enclosure is usually around 8 to 12 years, depending on the elements. As the vinyl coating on screen begins to ware,  the fiberglass beneath it begins to show through causing the screen to become brittle. This in turn results in tearing when it becomes windy or holes if an object hits the screen. If your screened enclosure needs repair, our screen repair service can help.

First Coast Home Pros has knowledgeable technicians who can make your re-screening or repair project a satisfying experience. The first step in our process is to send a technician out to take a look at the enclosure and decide if replacing only the damaged panels or re-screening the entire enclosure would be the better option. Often times replacing only one panel at a time can be more expensive in the long run than having the entire enclosure re-screened. Our technicians can help you with that decision and advise you on what the better choice would be.

First Coast Home Pros can tackle any re-screening or screen repair in Jacksonville. We can rebuild or replace window screens and door screens. We can even build custom frames to meet your specific needs.

Call today to set up a free in-home estimate and to take advantage of our special offer, $10 off any repairs, and $35 off total screen replacement. We look forward to hearing from you.
