If you live in 32206 and would like to have some Carpet Cleaning, Tile, Stone, & Grout Cleaning, or Upholstery Cleaning done the week of the 20th, please come to the garage sale to sign up for service and 50% of proceeds will be donated to the Spar Security Fund.

The SPAR (Springfield Preservation and Revitalization) Security Fund has established a relationship with the Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Office. Since 2004, SPAR has maintained a separate fund that hires off-duty JSO officers to patrol the historic district. This fund is entirely dependent on donations from organizations and individuals that have a stake in a safe Springfield.

“Lyrical Light” Sculpture Cleaning

Spring Cleaning for the Fall

Summer has come to an end and the fall and winter months are approaching. It’s time to put away those swimming toys and bathing suits and replace them with holiday decorations and sweaters. I always find it helpful to do a “spring cleaning” for the fall.

It may not sound like the most fun thing to do but you can make it not miserable! Have the family pitch in and help. Focus on one specific task a day instead of trying to get everything cleaned in one day or two. With the help of your family, you should have that house cleaned in no time. For example, one day have everyone clean the windows in the house. Then the next day everyone could clean the baseboards in the house. This way deep cleaning is getting done and with everyone helping, you could get your house in tip-top shape in a week or less!

Try and get those cleaning tasks done during the week, that way you and the family will have the weekends to relax and enjoy your time off. Something else to think about is inspecting each room and seeing what needs to be done. This could also be a good tactic when getting ready for the fall and winter. Get rid of things that you have not used in months or have a garage sale for your summer stuff (make a little cash). Perhaps tackling a room at a time will be more helpful then a cleaning project at a time, it is all up to you.

Do not get overwhelmed. Make a checklist of everything that you need to do. It will be nice when everything is marked off and your house is sparkling. Here are a couple of things that I would have on my checklist…

  • Clean all bedding or have it professionally cleaned
  • Clean the refrigerator
  • Clean patio and put away summer toys or umbrellas or patio furniture if you won’t be using it during the fall or winter
  • Check caulk around the windows and doors. You may have to redo to make sure that they are sealed tight!
  • Clean and organize the kitchen. Clean out the cabinets and prepare your kitchen for some holiday cooking!
  • Check your furnace to see if it needs any maintenance
  • Change your air filter and get a nice clean one for the cold months to come. This makes a huge difference in saving money on that electric bill!
  • Flip the mattresses in the bedrooms and clean them if possible. Make those beds cozy for the winter

Fall Décor

Yes people. It’s that time of year again. The air is changing, the leaves are turning to deep colors of red and yellow and you can finally put on a long sleeve shirt. Since the weather is changing along with the outside colors (I like to call them Fall colors), the décor in your home should reflect this lovely time of year as well.

Classic fall colors are deep reds and soft yellows, a deep, dark orange and different shades of green and brown. These colors tend to soften your home and keep it warm as the temperature starts to drops outside. Pumpkins and other types of gourds do not have to be contained to just Halloween. Placing these around your home in little nooks and crannies really makes the feel of Autumn come alive in your home.

A fall wreath is always fun to make and immediately sets the tone for your home before guests even step foot inside. You could make a wreath of faux autumn color leaves. You can buy these at any type of craft store. You could also incorporate small, multi-colored gourds in that wreath of yours to really add some bulk. Super glue would do the trick just fine.

I know that not everyone has time for projects like making a wreath but there are plenty of “in a second” fall decorations that can be put together with little to no time. A clear, thin vase filled with long, stemmed, bright colored leaves (fake or real) always makes for a lovely centerpiece on a coffee table or the kitchen table. Perhaps even getting an old chest and filling it with pumpkins and other brightly colored gourds is a cool idea to put in the living room.

There are so many different ideas for decorating for fall and it’s pretty simple as well. Just remember the colors and bring them into your home to create a soft and warm atmosphere for you, your family and friends!

The important things that you want to keep will always have a “home”. Sometimes people think that buying those big plastic containers to put large items in is the key to organizing but it is not. You should do this after you have decluttered your home and are finished throwing or giving un-needed and unwanted items away.

Small things like opening your mail immediately and throwing away the enveloped or junk mail are small fixes to staying organized. Keep your bills in a designated area. When it comes to organizing your closet, put your jeans in one area, group your sweaters together and if it helps color code your clothes so you can find things as quick as possible. The point of being organized is not just to be neat and tidy but also to be able to find what you are looking for with quickness because you know exactly where it is. Try your best to keep it there all of the time. Like I said earlier, everything should have a “home”. Everyone has busy lives but you do not have to have a cluttered life. Staying organized, at home, at school or at work, will help keep you happy, healthy and productive.
